This all started few months back when government of UP came out with a notification to acquire land in five districts namely; Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahar, Mathura, Aligarh, Mahamayanagar and Agra. The land in these districts is higly fertile and even small farmers take at least three crops round the year. That land is being acquired in the name of the development and public interest. State government has started a mega project Yamuna Expressway (formarly as Taj expressway) which is a 6 lane and expandable 8 lane highway passing through above mentioned districts and connecting Noida to Agra. This is a PPP project and have been awarded to a privet company. In pursuance of that privet company had acquired the one Kilomer streach of land from Noida to Agra and work on the road in progress very fast. Now Government of have came out with a notification recently that says that it will acquire more land in the five districts which fall in the way of this road projects. The BSP Government argues that it, while awarding the PPP project has committed to give Land Parcels free of cost to the Privet company so the expressway project becomes commercially viable.
Now government without getting the consent of farmers acquiring thousands of acre land for a privet company. Interestingly government has given the the documents of the land to the Jaypee group though the land is still in possession of farmers. Despite this the company has came out a advertisement claiming to make a housing complex there and also got some loan from the banks in the name of that.
Now farmers are protesting but their voice is not heard so far. They approached various level of courts also, individually and jointly. Allahabad high court has stayed the land acquisition but local administration is not executing the stay. It mounting pressure on the farmers to sign the agreement for land sale. Local bodies representatives like Gram Pradan, Block Pramukh or even Anganwadi staff are also pressurizing the helpless farmers.
We appeal and invite you for visit the area and writing about the plight of poor farmers.
It is a pity how the socialist set up is mocked and the industrialist and busiess groups benefit at the cost of poor. We have groups pro and con SEZs, both have their logics but this is the common tale. Land is everything for the farmers who till it with their blood. Yet they have no voice untill some NGO or social activist reach the spot to cash on the crisis. What is the government machienry doing?? Is it realy a pro poor (read dalit) goverment or another 'Animal Farm' in making.
